Sanjay’s Super Team – The New Short Could Be One Of Pixar’s Best

1433

Sanjay’s Super Team, has been nominated for an Oscar this year in the category of best animated short film. The film is inspired by Sanjay Patel’s (Indian-American Pixar animator) own childhood when he was struggling with a mentally conflicted view of the modern world versus the Hindu traditions of his family. ‘Sanjay’s Super Team’ depicts the daydream of a young Indian boy, bored with his father’s religious meditation, who imagines Hindu gods as superheroes. His dream shows the boy imagining a vendetta between Hindu demiurge and a demon.

Unluckily, Sanjay’s Super Team is unavailable to stream or buy online at the moment , but plenty of information has been released about the short, at least. You can read about it on Pixar’s webportal.

It’s the debut for Sanjay Patel (as a Director), a Pixar animator who’s been with the company since right after their big Toy Story a quantum leap in 1996. The new short is partly biographical, and is based upon Patel’s experiences growing up in California with Indian immigrant parents. Or possibly every Indian’s dream as a child. Remember this episode from TBBT.

Anywho…

The clip revolves around young Sanjay, who is more interested in superheroes than his father’s praying. That is, until, he begins to see the Hindu deities as superheroes in their own right. FYI Pixar has released a short clip, which you can watch below.

So what do you think about the film ? does it stand in Oscars?
